𝙋𝘼𝙉 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣:

✓The last date to link PAN with Aadhar was 30th June 2023. After that the PAN becomes inoperative.

✓ If a person is eligible to get aadhar card, he is required to link his PAN under sec 139AA(2).

𝗡𝗥𝗜 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲:

⏩ The linking issue was mainly focused on the domestic holders. However International assesse were also affected by the decision.

⏩ For NRIs, the IT department has mapped their residential status based on whether they have filed Income Tax Returns (ITR) in the last three Assessment Years (AYs) or if they have informed the Jurisdictional Assessing Officer (JAO) about their residential status. PAN cards have been rendered inoperative if these criteria are not met.

⏩ Now they can inform the JAO with supporting documents and request to update the PAN database so the status is changed to operative.

𝗜𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲:

≈ The department clarified that an inoperative PAN is not an inactive PAN. One may still file the income tax returns irrespective of PAN becoming inoperative.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗔𝗡

✅ Pending refunds and the corresponding interest will not be issued

✅ Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) will be deducted at a higher rate for inoperative PANs, in accordance with section 206AA.

✅Tax Collected at Source (TCS) will be collected at a higher rate for inoperative PANs, in accordance with section 206CC.

» The PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of fee of Rs.1,000.

» So if your PAN card has become inoperative pay the penalty and inform the authority to make it operative again to avoid the consequences.
