- 'PUNE: The liquor industry is having a tough time as the yearly sales of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer and wine recorded a marginal increase of 7% in Pune district in the last financial year. Wine is hitherto the favourite among tipplers, but its sales too grew by only 6% from April 2014 to February this year as against the double-digit growth it recorded earlier. The 2012-13 fiscal was the best for the industry in recent years as the state excise data for Pune district shows beer sales increased by 14.35% and that of wine by 12.53%. In 2013-14, beer sales dropped by 8% whereas wine sales shot up by 18%. In 2014-15, beer recovered from the previous year's setback by recording an 8% increase in sales while wine recorded just 7% rise. Industry sources said the current growth rate is dismal and the liquor industry seems to be in a slump since the phenomenal growth rate of 2011 when sales had peaked like never before. The growth in IMFL has stagnated around 7%. In 2013-14, the sales grew by around 7.5%, a trend which was replicated in the next fiscal when growth was around 7%. Sandeep Kanhere, a distributor, said the liquor industry's growth has suffered since 2011 when prices shot up by about 50% due to an increase in excise duty. "Before 2011, all segments - IMFL and beer in particular - recorded a double digit growth. The year 2011-12 saw sales drop to an-all-time low as the liquor industry went into a negative growth. The little growth that the IMFL and beer segments are showing is because distributors have pumped in large stocks of some IMFL and beer brands after the price rise in the two segments," said Kanhere. Wine set about 38% growth in 2011-12; 12.53% in 2012-13 and about 18% rise in 2013-14. In the last financial year, the growth fell to 7%. Experts suggest that wine may finally be losing its popularity. Hansraj Ahuja, an independent marketing consultant for wine, said, "The sales are stagnating, gradually moving towards a negative growth. One of the reasons is that marketing by all wine companies put together has not been enough to generate a sustaining interest in the drink, like it happened in the case of IMFL and beer. Also, wine is still paired with European and South Asian cuisine and not Indian food." A source in the industry said that people earlier fancied wine. "There are limitations in consuming wine as a beverage. For one, once you open a wine bottle, you cannot keep it for a later day. There's hardly any Indian cuisine that pairs with wine. So, the beverage may not be a favourite any more," he said. Vijay Kutty, president of the Pune District Wine Traders' Association, said that high price bracket has also affected sales.'
- 'CHANDIGARH: The video clip of a toddler dozing off midway through a chicken nugget went viral, eliciting responses as widely ranged as delight to shock. Many viewers perceived the clip as cute, while others were quick to point out the dangers of a child snoozing while having a bite. They said the child could choke on the food, which could even be fatal. City doctors are among those who did not find the clip amusing. They do not approve of concerned parents force feeding their children either. Experts feel force feeding is a great way of making children rebellious and moody about food. "Tired babies often take a nap between meals. To avoid asphyxiation, it is better to wake them up," cautioned Dr RS Bedi, a city based paediatrician. The website where the kid's parents uploaded the clip has thousands of comments. The three-year-old was on a flight when the clip was shot. He was exhausted but found the nugget too tempting to resist. Doctors of course, were aghast. "One should not allow children to eat while lying down. It is risky and can result in choking. Taking big bites of food and force feeding are unhealthy," said Dr Sadbhavna Pandit, paediatrician at the Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16. Parents need to keep in mind some basic tenets of feeding to prevent children from turning moody or cranky when they eat. "A common mistake mothers often make at an early stage is to give a bottle to a baby who drinks the milk and goes off to sleep. The bottle should be immediately withdrawn after the child sleeps," said Dr Bedi. Dr Dheeraj Kumar, a paediatrician said, "Parents must feed a child when he or she is hungry. When the child turns six months old, he has his moods and choices, which must be respected or else the child can turn rebellious."Advice Do not bottle feed while the child is asleep. Wake up the child and let him finish the meal. Feed the child when he is hungry. Do not force feed. Do not run after a child to feed. Set a time schedule for meals and follow it consistently.'

- 'CHANDIGARH: With their husbands away on work, many women living in the city will be relying on their webcams and smartphones to get in touch with their husbands to break their fast. Therefore, along with shopping for their Karwa â\x80\x9cthalisâ\x80? and fancy clothes, they have also been making sure that their laptops and computers are in working order. Sunita Singh, a resident of Sector 28 too has been using Skype to break her fast in her â\x80\x9chusbandâ\x80\x99s presenceâ\x80? for a while now. â\x80\x9cMy husband is an Army officer and for the last six years, I have been breaking my fast through Skype. Thanks to technology, I can at least see my husband before breaking the fast,â\x80? she said. Amisha Punn, a resident of Sector 35 said, â\x80\x9cMy husband works for a multinational company in Pune and would not be able to come to Chandigarh this time, so Iâ\x80\x99ll have no option but video chat for breaking the fast. Though my mother-in-law says that itâ\x80\x99s alright to break the fast without seeing the husband, itâ\x80\x99s my wish to see him before doing so.â\x80? Manjali Gandhi, a resident of Sector 40, Chandigarh, who too is in a similar situation said, â\x80\x9cMy husband is working for a multinational company and so most of the time he is abroad. Even now it has been two years since he has been away from home and so I use gmail video chat or Skype to get in touch with him. It is only after I talk to him that I break my fast. This time too Iâ\x80\x99ll either talk to him through Skype.â\x80? And it is not just Indian women who would be fasting and breaking their fast online. There are some foreigners too, who fascinated by the festival would be doing so. Mari Martin, who has come here from Afghanistan would be keeping a fasting and would use Skype to connect with her husband in Afghanistan to break her fast. â\x80\x9cI shifted to Chandigarh three years ago for my daughterâ\x80\x99s education and since then I have been keeping Karva Chauth fast for the long life of my husband. Even though in our country no one observes this fast, I was quite fascinated when I learnt about it. And as the fast is for the husbandâ\x80\x99s well-being, so I thought I would keep it too,â\x80? smiled Mari, who follows various rituals of the fast. However since her husband is in Afghanistan, she uses multimedia to see him and breaks her fast only after seeing the moon.'

- 'only had to defend itself for its past track record on the law and order front. That the electorateâ\x80\x99s sympathies were clearly with the SP became clear when Congress repeatedly faced protests and black flags at its rallies. In hindsight, Akhilesh also turned out to be a better media manager than most others. Despite professing to make a clean break from its past association with criminals and goons, the SP in fact fielded more candidates with criminal records. But even so, the more prominent ones like West UP dons DP Yadav and Amarmani Tripathi were kept at bay. In the end, though, the basic principles of Samajwad seem to have rescued the party. With party leaders addressing grass roots issues like non-availability of fertilisers, lack of cold storages and black marketing of seeds, the SP connected with the masses where Mayawati had left a gaping void. Angry with Mayawati for not making basic farm inputs easily accessible and with the Congress for the rising diesel prices, the masses, it appears, turned en masse to the â\x80\x98Ummeed ki Cycleâ\x80\x99. - 'twilight, before the gaslamps were lit, a hawker appeared selling soda for the evening tipple. At night, Iyer and his five siblings slept on a thin blanket, or jamakalam, in the large balcony. Fans were not needed: Trees and open spaces kept the area cool. So did Gold Finch. The buildingâ\x80\x99s wide windows and balcony let in breeze, as did the interconnected rooms and ventilators above the doorsâ\x80\x94a traditional layout that contrasted with the modern exterior, including a cantilevered balcony and fine Art Deco detailing.Growing up here inspired Iyer to study architecture at Sir JJ School of Arts, where he met Mhatre. He was an impressive man, Iyer recalls, with an obsession with proportion. In 1956, Iyer cofounded Architects Combine, and began to make a name for himself as a modernist architect.Little changed in the following decades. Time was marked by arrivals and departures. â\x80\x9cRailing romancesâ\x80? blossomed in gardens. The Kapoors moved away, and so did Iyerâ\x80\x99s siblings. In 1965, Dorabjee sold the property to the Bhansolis, who promptly added a floor like everyone else that year, thanks to new building rights or floor space index. Through the â\x80\x9970s, Matunga bustled, with communist rallies in Napoo Garden and the rise of Tamil don â\x80\x98Varadhabhaiâ\x80\x99.It was in the â\x80\x9980s that the area really began to change. Gardens became crowded, buildings dimmed, and diversity began to decline. One by one, the plots on Masani Road were sold, mostly to Gujaratis, including Gold Finch in 1986 to the Chhedas. Five Gardens fended off development proposals: an interstate bus-station, a food court, an elevated walkway. But when the city finally did invade the area, it would be from within.Redevelopment policies were introduced in 1993 to help decrepit, tenanted buildings. But increasing incentives led to the levelling of even sturdy structures. For years, the Chhedas were content to keep their Mhatre connection. But in 2008, talk of redevelopment rose. By then, half of Masani Road was being rebuilt. Noise and pollution had long made sleeping in the balcony impossible. Airconditioners had become common. In 2016, the Iyers moved out of Gold Finch. Kamu had lived there for 75 years, his wife Lalitha for 54. Zenobia sold her flat regretfully and retired with her husband to Puneâ\x80\x94in a quiet, tree-lined neighbourhood reminiscent of old Five Gardens. The Iyers, awaiting redevelopment, have rented in a tower nearby. As for Gold Finch, the three-storey is set to be replaced by a 16-floor tower. Unusually, the new building will retain the name. And in a little twist to the tale, the new architect is Sachin Goregaonkarâ\x80\x94GB Mhatreâ\x80\x99s grandson.'

- 'NEW DELHI: In a country known for conformity, Yusaku Maezawa has always sought to stand out.He skipped college, moved to California to play in a rock band and started his own e-commerce company. After making it big, the 42-year-old started dropping hundreds of millions of dollars on artwork. Now the billionaire founder of Start Today Co. is set to become the first paying passenger to the moon on a SpaceX rocket scheduled to blast off in 2023. Itâ\x80\x99s the latest headline-grabbing project by Maezawa, whose Twitter handle is @yousuck2020.While Maezawa is relatively unknown outside the archipelago and the art world, heâ\x80\x99s guaranteed to become more famous with his plan to fly to Earthâ\x80\x99s biggest satellite with a cabal of artists. A self-professed art lover, the Japanese entrepreneur intends to take a combination of painters, musicians, dancers, photographers, film directors, fashion designers and architects on a week-long lunar loop, where heâ\x80\x99ll get to watch as they get inspired and create art along the way.â\x80\x9cI thought long and hard about how valuable it would be to be the first passenger to the moon,â\x80? Maezawa said at an announcement at Space Exploration Technologies Corp.â\x80\x99s headquarters in Hawthorne, California, sitting next to the rocket companyâ\x80\x99s CEO, Elon Musk. â\x80\x9cI choose to go to the moon with artists.â\x80?The flight around the moon is a marriage of Maezawaâ\x80\x99s diverse interests: to be a visionary, to support art and to promote his company. Taking the enormous personal risk of orbiting the moon as the first private citizen would cement him in history books. Maezawa said he hopes the art created during the trip will inspire more interest and support for artists. Maezawa and Musk declined to say how much the lunar trip would cost.â\x80\x9cThis is not us choosing him,â\x80? Musk said. â\x80\x9cHe chose us. He is a very brave person to do this.â\x80?Maezawa made a name and fortune for himself by defying the norms of Japanese society. A former drummer in a rock band, he built shopping website Zozotown, a popular destination for younger consumers, from a mail-order music album business. With a net worth of $2.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Maezawa made a splash in the art world in 2017 when he spent $110.5 million on a single Jean-Michel Basquiat painting at a Sothebyâ\x80\x99s auction, setting a record for an American artistâ\x80\x99s work at the time. By then, Maezawa had already bought several Basquiat pieces.Maezawa has funded his art binge by selling shares in the company he founded. He sold about $250 million worth of stock in 2016 and used most of it to add to his art collection over the following two years. In May, Start Today said he had sold about 23 billion yen ($205 million) worth of the companyâ\x80\x99s shares. He has not announced major art purchases so far this year, suggesting at least some of the funds may have been used to participate in Muskâ\x80\x99s mission.â\x80\x9cI love art, so I want to see what artists will collaborate on together and'

"I was always artistically inclined, and never dreamt of joining the Railways. But my parents passed away when I was six, and I moved from Jhansi to Mumbai to stay with my sister. Her husband worked in the Parel workshop and after I finished my SSC, I joined as an apprentice,'' says 56-year-old Singh, as he cuts white sheets of tough plastic which will be shaped into windows grills of an electric train engine.Singh's workshop-one of the two bedrooms of his flat-is lined with ceiling-high shelves stocked with prototypes in glass boxes bearing the names of the train engine models. "The family accommodates itself in the other room, besides there is always space in the hall,'' he says. "I have all the tools I require. Some of the materials I use are very fine. I get them from old umbrellas, cycle spares and used fireworks.'' In the room are a plastic cutting machine used to cut synthetic sheets, bench vices, a hacksaw, a grinding machine, a buffing machines and air compressors used for spray painting. Somewhere in the corner is a black bicycle. "Work ends at 3:45 pm. After that it's a train from Parel to Kurla, from where I pick up my cycle parked near platform number 9 and peddle home,'' he says. This practice helps him keep fit, save time and a few rupees.Friends and colleagues, intrigued by his hobby, are always ready to help with pictures of rare train engines and raw material. A model takes at least a month to finish with a minimum of four hours of work every evening. His wife Usha is a great cook, he says, but when he's mid-model, not even her food can entice him.Singh, whose largest replica is a 140-tonne crane that weighs over 10 kg and is six-and-a-half-feet long, has exhibited his work at various railway exhibitions at CST, the Thane Railway Institute and the Lokmanya Tilak Engineering College. He is grateful for the support he has received from his employer. "I started making train engine replicas twenty years ago, after I married Usha and we moved into the Railway quarters. My daughter Deepti and my son Devendra help me out but are not hands on,'' he says.Usha enters the room at'

- 'The number of millionaires in India is growing strongly and at the end of 2015 around 2,36,000 high net worth individuals (HNIs) were living in the country, with a combined wealth of $1.5 trillion, says a report. According to the India 2016 Wealth Report, by New World Wealth, while most countries worldwide have experienced negative or negligible growth since 2007, India has performed â\x80\x98very wellâ\x80\x99 through this period. â\x80\x9cIndian HNI volumes increased by 55% from 1,52,000 HNIs in 2007 to 2,36,000 HNIs in 2015. HNI wealth rose 67%, from $0.9 trillion in 2007 to $1.5 trillion in 2015,â\x80? the report said. The major factors that were responsible for the growth in wealth performance in the country include strong growth in the construction, financial services, IT, BPO and healthcare sectors; solid economic growth; and increased levels of entrepreneurship. â\x80\x9cWe expect the number of Indian HNIs to grow by 135%, to reach around 5,54,000 by 2025,â\x80? the report stated.'

Payments banks, therefore, complement traditional banks, rather than compete with them.Digital or e-wallets, on the other hand, are just a medium for making cashless payments. You canâ\x80\x99t make deposits, earn interest or withdraw money through them. â\x80\x9cGoing forward, wallets will just become one more avenue through which customers can access their bank accounts and carry out digital transactions,â\x80? says Gupta. The future of paymentsPayments banks offer a great deal of convenience to customers. Even if you have an existing account with a traditional bank, a payments bank can allow you to access banking services and perform transactions, well after the normal banking hours have ended. This eliminates the need for you to make time specifically for travelling to your branch to carry out transactions.Another important benefit is cash digitisation. Nearly 90% of transactions in India are typically cash based, but demonetisation has given a huge push to payments banks with its emphasis on digital transactions. â\x80\x9cWe are already witnessing new set of customers, including vendors, grocers and small business owners, opting for cashless payments. The adoption level will only increase going forward, and payments banks will facilitate this digital transformation,â\x80? says Gupta.Payments banks are therefore expected to create some disruption in the banking system and bring banking to the masses on a wider scale. Rane told reporters. The problem at the district hospital, he said, arose since the number of people who came in to Goa on Thursday were far greater than anticipated. â\x80\x9cThere was an issue,â\x80? he said. â\x80\x9cWe cannot just keep increasing the number of machines for Covid-19 tests to increase the speed of testing. - 'Namit Das is in Kolkata for a shoot once again. And for the last few days, the actor has been exploring the cityâ\x80\x99s cultural heritage. In a candid chat with CT, Namit spoke about his love for Kolkata, the importance of addressing mental health issues affecting men, polarisation of Bollywood and more. Excerpts:This is not your first visit to Kolkata. So, what did you explore this time?During this time of the year, the weather in Kolkata is just perfect. I love this city because as you go deeper, you will understand its history and rich culture. I have a genuine interest in history. Thatâ\x80\x99s the reason I keep coming back to Kolkata. It is also like getting back to my roots, as you know I am half Bengali (and half Punjabi).Tell us about your experience of working with Mira Nair recentlyâ\x80¦Itâ\x80\x99s been a great experience. How can one describe working with a legend? I can only say I have learnt so much and I am still learning. The best thing about working with Mira is that everything becomes an unending conversation. She has such a big vision of the world. Bollywood is extremely polarised right now. How can you stay away from it?You can stay away from it if you want to. About polarisation, it is not just Bollywood. The world seems to go through a time, in which everything exists in two contrasting thoughts. The centre is missing. I think that is the challenge. It is like if I donâ\x80\x99t agree with you, Iâ\x80\x99m against you. This idea scares me. If I put Bollywood in perspective, it is actually a very tough time. Social media has revealed the violent nature of human beings. Now, we know that people can be very cruel. It is great that you have an opinion and you can put it across in words on social media. But I donâ\x80\x99t like the violence. I might have an opinion that is different from you but that doesnâ\x80\x99t mean I should not exist. The ethos of our country used to respect each otherâ\x80\x99s differences. I think that is hugely challenged somewhere. And Bollywood hasnâ\x80\x99t been spared. Everyone in the industry has to face it. I think resilience is the key. Sometimes silence is loud enough. You paid an emotional tribute to Soumitra Chatterjee on social media...Soumitra Chatterjee had a huge influence on me as an actor. I never got an opportunity to meet Soumitrada. Every time I think about it, my heart feels heavy. His performances in Charulata and Apur Sansar had a huge impact on me, not just as an artiste but also as a human being. Whenever I have doubts, I go back to the last sequence in Apur Sansar. That image reflects so much of hope and humanity. You have been vocal about mental health issues, especially among men. Do you think addressing the issue becomes more difficult if you belong to the entertainment industry?Addressing mental health issues is anyway difficult, especially for men. It also made $150 million at the box office, which is why we have a sequel. You may not have asked for "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," but be grateful you got it.\nIn a terrific and absolutely gross opening scene, married couple the Radners (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) are back, doing the same thing they were doing in the opening scene of the first movie, which this time results in a disgusting sight gag â\x80\x93 one sure to make you both laugh and slap yourself in the forehead, because you wonâ\x80\x99t believe what you just saw.\nSeth Rogen and Rose Byrne Talk 'Neighbors 2,' Sororities and Their First Acting Gigs\nMovie Review: 'Neighbors' with Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne\nSeth Rogen and Rose Byrne Sing 'Tomorrow' Together\nThen we get to catch up with the brothers of Delta Psi. This scene includes one of the movieâ\x80\x99s best jokes, which doubles as terrific social commentary, and also has a twist, which also serves as terrific social commentary. Itâ\x80\x99s not often that â\x80\x9cdude-broâ\x80? humor produces a cutting joke about social injustice.\nEnter Chloë Grace Moretz as Shelby, a college freshman disappointed with the local sorority scene. Turns out Teddy, after a falling out with his best friend (Dave Franco), has also been living there. He agrees to help grow the sorority, while also hoping to exact revenge on the Radners.\nLike the first movie, a battle between the Radners and, this time, the sorority ensues. And once again, its brand of gross-out sight gags is used to explore a range of feminist and social themes. - "active Liquid Natural Gas export plant in the United States at the time. Pruitt traveled to Morocco last December and the EPA said in a press release that liquid natural gas exports were a topic of discussion during that trip. Last year, Cheniere Energy Inc. reported paying Hartâ\x80\x99s firm $80,000. Hartâ\x80\x99s firm specifically lobbied on â\x80\x9cissues related to the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), approval of LNG exports and export facilities.â\x80? The firm also lists on its website that it lobbies on other EPA policies like the Clean Air Act. Hart was registered with several companies to lobby on energy issues, but he told ABC News on Friday that he never contacted the EPA for clients. â\x80\x9cI made no lobby contacts at the EPA in 2017 or 2018,â\x80? Hart said. The EPA did not respond to ABC News' questions about whether Hart's lobbying firm had any involvement in arranging meetings during Pruitt's trip to Morocco. Cheniere Energy spokeswoman Rachel Carmichel told ABC News the company ended its relationship with Hartâ\x80\x99s firm in December 2017. The spokeswoman went on to say Cheniere was unaware of the relationship between Pruitt and the lobbyist and had not used Hartâ\x80\x99s firm to have conversations with the EPA. Another lobbying client of Hartâ\x80\x99s, the railroad Norfolk Southern, spent $160,000 last year on lobbying Congress on â\x80\x9cissues affecting coal usage, oil production, and transportation, including EPA regulation.â\x80? Norfolk Southern also declined to comment when reached by ABC News. Craig Holman, an ethics specialist at Public Citizen, a non-partisan watchdog group, wrote to the EPA Inspector General Thursday to request an investigation into the rental arrangement. If the rental arrangement was anything other than a market rate deal, he wrote, â\x80\x9cit would at least constitute a violation of the federal statutes and executive branch rules prohibiting gifts to covered officials from prohibited sources.â\x80? â\x80\x9cSince Administrator Pruitt is already involved in allegations of accepting gifts of travel, the question arises whether a sense of entitlement may have led him to violate the gift rules on this rental arrangement as well,â\x80? Holman wrote. The head of the nonprofit watchdog group the Environmental Integrity Project and former EPA Director of Civil Enforcement Eric Shaffer called on the EPA's inspector general and Congress to look into the issue. â\x80\x9cDoes this explain why Pruitt flew to Morocco to pitch natural gas exports, which isnâ\x80\x99t really an EPA concern?â\x80? Schaeffer wrote in a statement. The EPA inspector general's office is aware of the report, according to spokesman Jeff Lagda. The agency's inspector general is already looking into the cost of Pruitt's travel and whether the agency followed all proper procedures."

- 'Pharmacokinetic comparison of nomogram-based and individualized vancomycin regimens in neonates. PURPOSE: This study compared steady-state concentrations achieved with a dosing strategy using first-dose kinetics to individualize vancomycin regimens with the steady-state concentrations achieved using standardized nomograms.METHODS: Neonatal intensive care unit patients receiving vancomycin according to published nomograms (phase 1) were compared with patients receiving vancomycin using first-dose pharmacokinetic information to individualize the dosing regimen (phase 2). Retrospective chart review was used to gather demographic and patient-specific pharmacokinetic data. Data collected included gestational and postnatal ages, birth and dosing weights, first-dose peak and trough concentrations, serum creatinine, and information related to infection. Data were analyzed to determine the percentage of therapeutic concentrations at a steady state in each group.RESULTS: Phase 1 included 108 patients given doses according to published nomograms, and phase 2 included 85 patients who received vancomycin with first-dose pharmacokinetics. Steady-state concentrations were collected in 108 patients in phase 1 and 39 patients in phase 2. Both peak and trough concentrations were therapeutic at steady state in 39% in phase 1 versus 63% in phase 2 (p < 0.02). Therapeutic steady-state peak concentrations were achieved in 70% versus 76% while therapeutic steady-state trough concentrations were achieved in 50% versus 82% (p < 0.02) in phase 1 and phase 2, respectively.CONCLUSION: Compared with the use of nomograms, individualization of vancomycin regimens after the first dose in neonatal patients significantly increased the percentage of patients with target steady-state trough concentrations and with both target peak and trough concentrations. The benefits of individualized dosing were attained without additional venous sampling.'
- 'Real-time and high throughput monitoring of cAMP in live cells using a fluorescent membrane potential-sensitive dye. Adenosine-3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) conveys the signals from G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and regulates a variety of downstream cellular events. However, there are few robust assays available for measuring cAMP in live cells. Most of the existing cAMP assays require cell lysis and/or have relatively low throughput. We report a live cell-based cAMP assay that has been developed to record the real-time changes in intracellular cAMP. By employing a mutated cyclic-nucleotide-gated ion channel (CNGC) as the cAMP biosensor, the change of cAMP level is coupled to the change of transmembrane potential that is measured through a new fluorescent membrane potential (MP)-sensitive dye, HLB 021-152. We have successfully used HLB 021-152 for homogeneously monitoring cAMP stimulations in live cells under both serum-containing and serum-free environments. Upon stimulating the endogenous or heterogenous GPCRs on CNGC-cloned human embryonic kidney 293 cells with agonists, the fluorescence signal of HLB 021-152 increases rapidly. It has much greater assay dynamic range than DiSBAC2(3), the existing "gold standard" dye for measuring cellular MP. This new MP dye can be readily formulated for high throughput screening of GPCR modulators either with serum or without serum.'
- 'Elevated basal progesterone levels are associated with increased preovulatory progesterone rise but not with higher pregnancy rates in ICSI cycles with GnRH antagonists. OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the association between basal progesterone (P) levels and the occurrence of preovulatory progesterone rise (PPR) and clinical pregnancy rates (CPRs) in ICSI cycles with GnRH antagonists.STUDY DESIGN: Serum P levels of 464 patients were measured on day 2 and day of hCG of cycles. Cycles with basal P levels>1.6ng/mL were cancelled. All embryos were cryopreserved in cycles with P levels?2ng/mL on the day of hCG. The primary outcome measures were the incidence of PPR (P>1.5ng/mL) and CPR with regard to basal P.RESULTS: Basal P levels were significantly higher in cycles with PPR than in those without PPR (0.63±0.31 vs. 0.48±0.28ng/mL). Area under the curve for basal P according to ROC analysis to discriminate between elevated and normal P levels on the day of hCG was 0.65 (0.58-0.71 95% CI, p<0.01). The cut-off value for basal P levels that best discriminates between cycles with and without PPR was 0.65ng/mL. Cycles with basal P levels above 0.65ng/mL had a significantly higher incidence of PPR (30.9% vs. 13.5%) but similar clinical and cumulative pregnancy rates (38.8% vs. 31.1% and 41.7% vs. 32.6%, respectively) in comparison to cycles with basal P levels below 0.65ng/mL. In multivariate regression analysis, basal P levels, LH level on the first day of antagonist administration, and estradiol levels on the day of hCG trigger were the variables that predicted PPR.CONCLUSION: Basal P levels were associated with increased incidence of PPR but not with CPR.'

- 'Cocktails, cheers, much anticipation and excitement was seen amongst people who went for a recent Hollywood screening. The early birds were Mouni Roy and Gaurav Chopraa, closely followed by Tanaz and Bakhtyaar Irani. Rajev and Rakessh Paul, who had come in solo at another do, were seen with their sister and their cute one-and-half-year old nephew who was the centre of attraction and had most women swooning over him. However, this â\x80\x98littleâ\x80\x99 heartthrob made a quick exit somewhere in between the movie as sleep was getting the better of him. But the real fun was during the interval. Just when the lights were coming on for the intermission, there was a scream! Mouni sitting next to Gaurav, cried out â\x80\x9cChooha! Chooha!â\x80? Now Lord Rama and other characters of the Ramayana have been shown in a very shameful manner. Should it not stop,â\x80? the bench asked in a crowded open court. The bench clarified that the court had no religious inclination and if the same pleas had come up before it regarding the Quran or the Bible, it would have taken the same tough stand.During the hearing, a vacation bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shree Prakash Singh asked whether the court should remain silent regarding the manner in which the movie has been made.Expressing the need for specific guidelines for the clearing of such movies by the censor board, the bench stressed that films made on religious subjects should not â\x80\x9cinstigateâ\x80? the feelings of any community.Sensitising filmmakers, Justice Singh said they should make movies showing the sacrifice of Lord Rama and his love of his brother Bharat. On the plea of the production houseâ\x80\x99s lawyer, Sudeep Seth, that there is no book that depicted the attire of Lord Rama and other characters of the Ramayana and hence why should there be any objection to the attire used in the movie, Justice Singh asked him if he did not go through the original copy the Constitution of India, which contained pictures of Lord Rama and other characters in decent attire.Seth was speechless when the bench asked him if he would like to worship the idols in his puja room as shown indecently dressed in the movie. The bench also asked deputy solicitor-general SB Pandey why the central government was not reviewing the certificate granted by the censor board. Pandey said the bench should provide a solution.Pandey, however, opposed the PILs, saying that the censor board had granted the certificate after a panel of senior board members had watched the film and cleared it. â\x80\x9cBetter sense should prevail on such sacramental matters,â\x80? the bench said sharply.'
- 'PANAJI: Come mid-November, and it's not uncommon to see a bridge being painted, streets being done up and buildings receiving their much-needed fresh coats of paint. Closer to November-end and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) complex turns into a hub of activity. From festive lights and chattering delegates to a buzzing street and a variety of food stalls, they're all there. It then dawns on you that it's that time of the year again, when movie aficionados will soon be glancing through their film screening schedules, journalists prioritizing which press conferences to attend and casual passersby taking time out to walk the bedecked corniche or savouring some of those kebabs that sell like they wouldn't at any other time of the year. There are, of course, the ever-enthusiastic bunch of film students that descend upon Goa and the delegates-national and international-who hobnob with each other, making sure they don't miss out on the good movies. With a selection of 300 films from 61 countries to be screened at 11 theatres, the international film festival of India is here again. And better than ever, it seems. "Iffi this year could well be the best film festival Goa's ever seen," says organizing committee member Raju Nayak. "With five years of experience, ESG has ensured that Iffi 2010 is going to be more professional and systematic than in the previous years," he adds. ESG CEO Manoj Srivastava agrees. "This year's film festival aims at discipline in management, a professional attitude and less of ad-hocism. The entire effort is to manage Iffi efficiently and in a seamless manner rather than try to incorporate new things into each passing festival."The street across the ESG, too, is as noisy as it is nice. Walking along the corniche, one can sample some Bombay bhel puri, or perhaps some Mysore gobi Manchurian or American corn and then wash it down with some Nasik ice gola. They're all bursting with enthusiasm and ready for business. If one's not in the mood for food, one could just walk the lit-up street and pity the fish meekly peeking at you from an aquarium or stare in horror at an intimidating big black gorilla. "I've decided that this year around, the street will be decorated with scenes of different famous films like the Titanic or Batman. There will also be an underwater aquarium," says the brain behind the spruced-up corniche and a member of the organizing committee Francisco Martins. Martins, who says work commenced just ten days ago, admits that though it's the eve of Iffi, work is not yet complete. However, he is confident of pulling it all together by Monday noon.On that note, lets draw up a checklist. Food stalls? check. Delegates aplenty? check. A street that makes one feel like they've stepped into a movie set? check. That unmistakable animated buzz? check. Lights? check. And of course, cameras and lots of action.'

- 'BANGALORE: When Innocent Muhoozi landed in Bangalore two years ago, his phone book had very little to show. Quiet weekends were in store for Innocent, 25, from Rwanda, as the basketball player had no friends in this faraway land. "I came to India in August 2011 for a BCom degree. The next month was thorny. Attending classes and practicing basketball was all I did," says Innocent, unaware that childhood friends from his country were staying a stone's throw away. It was at Utopia, an exclusive fest organized for overseas students by the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, that Innocent met his long-lost friends. "I got to know about the fest from my college mates and decided to give it a shot. I was stunned after I found three of my childhood friends at the fest. We were friends in school, but had lost contact since," says Innocent. "Utopia has given me many friends in the past two years. I have friends not just from my country, but from across the globe," says this student of St Francis De Sales College. Each year, hundreds of students from different countries come to the city to join various colleges. While some lucky ones have relatives and friends already waiting, the rest end up with few or no contacts. To ensure these students are well integrated into campus life, colleges have been putting in a lot of effort these days. From holding exclusive fests to appointing full-time coordinating staffers, from providing separate accommodation to equipping them with communication skills through special classes, colleges today are leaving no stone unturned to make overseas students feel at home.Lingo lessons "Leading a life away from home is difficult. It becomes tougher if you don't know the local language. For these students, we organize 'survival' Hindi and Kannada classes of a total duration of 15 hours. They may not become fluent speakers, but get enough knowhow to lead a comfortable life in the city, especially when it comes to dealing with auto drivers," says Jacob John, resident director, University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC), Christ University. With over 2,000 students from more than 45 countries on campus, the varsity also organizes state trips. "We take them to places in Karnataka like Mysore and Kodagu for sight seeing. They get to know these places, and these trips are also a source of entertainment to them," says Jacob. Krupanidhi College also has a 'finishing school' to help them gain confidence by learning local communication and improving body language. The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) has special hostels equipped with facilities like Wi-Fi for international students. "We have 46 such rooms which are not shared. Since most of these students come with their families, we have four separate rooms to accommodate them," said C Vasudevappa, dean, postgraduate studies, UAS. The Bangalore campus has 50 international students. WAY TO THEIR HEARTS Some colleges also ensure the taste buds are looked after. "We have around 300 overseas students from 18 different countries. - 'Vadodara: The Chaubaha Port that India is developing in Iran will bring Mundra Port in the state at a distance of merely a day-and-a-half by sea. Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan who is scheduled to visit Iran on April 9 said here on Wednesday. Pradhan, who was in the city for the Bharatmata Gaurav Kuch Yatra, said that the Chaubaha Port will be amongst the highlights of the visit. "It will take relations between Iran and India to new heights," said Pradhan. The minister said that a delegation from Iran during a recent meeting had pointed it out to him how close Mundra would be to Chaubaha. "We would be able to procure fertilizers, petrochemicals, aluminium and other material at cheaper rates," he said. Pradhan pointed out that India shared a special relation with Iran as even in Iran's bad times, India used to procure oil from that country. "With sanctions against Iran now lifted, we expect the ties to strengthen," he said. Pradhan said that the relationships would be strengthened further as foreign minister Sushma Swaraj was scheduled to visit Iran soon after his visit. Commenting on the reduction in crude oil from the state, Pradhan said that the highest production of inland crude oil took place in Gujarat. He said that the ministry was looking at a new model for Assam and Gujarat with new investments and new technology. Pradhan said that he had reviewed the progress on the capacity expansion at the Gujarat Refinery of the Indian Oil Corporation in the city. "The capacity of the refinery is being expanded to 13.7million tonne to 18 million tonne. It will give Bharat Stage VI fuel now," he said.'
- "NEW DELHI: Amid massive footfall of people thronging hill stations, the Centre raised an alarm on Tuesday warning that 'revenge travel' can jeopardise the gains and create fresh Covid-19 cases even as the country is struggling with waning second wave to restart economic activities.â\x80\x9cVirus will get an opportunity to spread again if people continue to move around in hill stations and market without properly wearing masks and without maintaining physical distance,â\x80? Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry said, urging people that relaxations be put to good use to undertake activities that are necessary while also following Covid-appropriate norms such as hand hygiene, proper use of masks and maintain physical distance.Daily new cases have come down significantly in last few weeks. The average daily new cases during July 3-6 were recorded at 40,420, as compared to over 3.89 lakh cases recorded in the first week of May (May 1-7). On Monday, around 34,703 new cases of Covid-19 were reported from across the country.â\x80\x9cThe pictures (from hill stations) that we have seen today are very frightening. Covid-appropriate behaviour is absolutely essential. We have to be very very responsible and very cautious,â\x80? Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Balram Bhargava said.Officials cited an online survey involving 33,000 respondents indicating gross violations in terms of use of masks and physical distancing. The survey shows that 69% respondents were not complying to proper use of masks, whereas compliance to physical distancing norms were completely missing in 63% and 24% showed limited compliance. Only 11% said they fully comply with physical distancing norms.â\x80\x9cNow, with lifting of restrictions people are inferring that virus is over. Virus is still around and it is important to continue with measures. Gross violations of Covid appropriate behaviour can nullify the gains achieved so far through Covid management and we may have to face a challenge again,â\x80? Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry said."

- 'Tore your stockings by mistake with a long fingernail? Not to worry, as such torn (laddered, in designer terms) stockings have become fashion. The trend of wearing ripped denims with loose tees has been there for a while. Now, it is time to move on from these ripped denims and take a step forward with laddered stockings and leggings. This style statement, exclusively for girls, is sure to make heads turn.Of late, a lot of celebs have been seen sporting this trend. Lady Gaga with her rebellious style, Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Dakota Fanning, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus are a few examples. The newest street style boasts of shredded tights worn with long shirts. You can team up the laddered leggings with a skirt and a loose blouse and add the touch of glamour by wearing boots. With winters coming soon, you can also wear such stockings with cardigans, t-shirts and leather jackets or beautiful one-pieces to make your own style statement. But remember, it is also important to carry the trend with attitude! You can add accessories like oversized sunglasses and long, dangling chains for the perfect party look.Making you a torn-stocking or legging is easy. All you have to do is grab an old pair of stockings, a pair of scissors and break some of the vertical threads that line your stockings. As these are made out of very thin material, this task is quite simple. Cut a few uneven slashes right up to your ankles. After this is done, you are ready to flaunt them in front of your friends and rock the streets!ano.patel@timesgroup.com'

- 'COIMBATORE: Eight years ago residents of tiny hamlets on Manampalli range in Valparai had to wait for days to get a mail delivered as no one came forward to work there as postman due to fear of wild animals. Thatâ\x80\x99s when R Solaikili, 36, a mother of two from Pollachi got an offer for the job. She had registered her name with the employment exchange. She readily took up the challenge and for eight years has been delivering letters to the hamlets braving rough terrain and unpredictable weather or the occasional encounters with wild animals. Solaikili says spotting a leopard, wild elephant, bear or a bison would be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for most. But for her it is an everyday phenomenon. â\x80\x9cOn the very first day I joined duty, a wild elephant with its calf blocked my path when I was out to deliver letters. Solaikilli was born in a family of seven children near Pollachi. She had to discontinue studies after Class 12 due to poverty. She pursued a few computer courses and then registered her name with the employment exchange. She married a weaver from Coimbatore but her struggles were far from over. So when she got the job offer, she didnâ\x80\x99t think twice. â\x80\x9cMany of my relatives were against my taking up the offer due to the dangers involved, but my family supported me,â\x80\x99â\x80\x99 Solaikili said. Now I am used to it,â\x80\x99â\x80\x99 she smiles. Solaikili has also convinced 15 tribal people to take up insurance policy and many others to start a savings account in the post office. - 'Kollywood has been seeing, making and breaking trends. And the recent one to catch our attention is the one in which actors are taking to direction! Earlier, the decision of directors like SJ Suryah, Sundar C, Sasikumar and Samuthirakani to act made headlines. Now, actors are taking to direction. Though there have been instances of actors taking to direction earlier, the trend seems to be catching up now. For a start, Nizhalgal Ravi, who proved to be a versatile actor, both on the big and small screens, is to become a director. Not far behind is our very own Chaya Singh, who has decided to take up direction, as is Kolangal star Abhishek with Kadhai. The list further continues with Nandita Das, who stunned Tamil audiences with her spell binding performances in Azhagi and Kannaththil Muththamittal, already donning the directors hat with Firaaq. Kangna Ranaut, the chirpy Shenba of Dhaam Dhoom, too has expressed a desire to direct a movie, if reports are to be believed. So, why are actors taking to direction? Actor-turned-director Venkat Prabhu, who is currently shooting for Goa, explains, Its a basic instinct. Every actor wants to direct a movie. They have a pet script in their mind and feel that no one else can do justice to it. And thats when the transformation from an actor to a director happens. Nandita Das too expresses a similar opinion. As an actress, it is always very satisfying to tell your own story in your own way, she says. Also, the stars agree that theres a distinct advantage when an actor takes to direction. I can enact a scene to my artistes and show them what I expect from them, says Venkat. When a director decides to don the grease paint, nothing seems to be amiss. But, when an actor decides to give direction a shot, tongues start wagging. However, Chaya Singh, who is all set to direct Gandhi Bazaar, clarifies, When an actor takes to direction, its not simply because he has a life to lead. I have many projects in hand, but still I want to direct a movie because I am passionate about cinema. Points out Nizhalgal Ravi, who has already completed two tele-serials and one short film, Raj Kapoor started directing and producing movies while he was at the peak of his career. Aamir Khan has also directed a movie while his career graph was soaring.Does it mean that the actors will bid adios to acting? No. I have nine movies in my kitty and I am getting offers continuously, informs Nizhalgal Ravi, who is all set to direct a love story soon. For Chaya Singh, her commitment to other projects has delayed her directorial venture. But, when it comes to fulfilling their desire, which roles do they like the most? When I was an actor, I liked throwing a challenge to other actors. When I turned director, I enjoyed the challenge of making an actor perform to his best. The feeling is mutual, says Nizhalgal'

- "KOLKATA: Pandal-hoppers appreciating decorations is one thing, but it doesn't stop there. Several of them, these days, even yank off decorative materials from pandals to preserve as keepsakes. This trend has become a major source of irritation and bother for Puja organizers, some of whom had to even stop visitors from entering the pandal for a couple of hours to control the situation.Take the case of Hatibagan Sarbojonin, which has been a major draw this year, thanks to the colourful wooden birds from Varanasi that were brought in the thousands to adorn the pandal. The birds, ranging from two to six inches, many attached to lead pencils, were used to decorate the pandal. Throughout Puja, many visitors tore these away while walking out of the pandal, but on Sunday things went out of hand since visitors tore them off by the dozen and slid them into their bags. Angry organisers nabbed a large number of such visitors and recovered hundreds of birds and pencils from them.â\x80\x9cThe funny bit is that, they came up with answers like,
Since Puja is over, we thought these would be destroyed when the pandals are dismantled'.And most of these people are educated and quite well-off,â\x80\x9c complained Saswata Bose, joint secretary of the club. Visitors were stopped from entering the pandal for two hours, during which security was beefed up.Help also came from the local police station. This is not the first time that this Puja has suffered from vandalism. In 2013, when small model animals made out of buffalo horns were used for decorations, those too had been taken away by several visitors, Bose said.A similar fate was suffered by the Dumdum Park Bharat Chakra Sarbojonin Puja, which had folk and tri bal art as part of its theme. People found the papier mâché models attractive and tore them off the pandal.Behala Nutan Dal had become the talk of the town this year with its Andarmahal' theme that was inno vatively created by Pradip Das, a young Government Art College passout. You had tiny kulungis at vantage points inside the pandal to recreate the feel of an old-world interior. In these shelves you had jars containing naru and nakuldana. Since these were within arm's reach, people were seen taking off jars to take out the goodies and eating them.Thakurpukur SB Park, however, learnt its lesson from past experience. In 2015, it had decorated its pandal with tiny brass utensils, which were heavily vandalized by visitors. â\x80\x9cSo, this time, when we decided to decorate our pandal with tiny wooden chairs, we arranged them in such a way that most of these would be out of reach. We had augmented security at all points where the decoratives were within reach,â\x80\x9c said Sanjoy Majumdar, cultural secretary of the club." - 'Panaji: In an effort to celebrate the rich cultural history of Goa and Portugal, the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) will organize the sixth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa festival from November to February, chairman of the executive committee Jose Elmano Coelho Pereira said on Wednesday. - 'Location: Malappuram Municipality Stadium, KottappadyTime: 2 pm to 6 pm, February 10What does your gender have to do with playing the beautiful game?Nothing, says a group of young football enthusiasts from Kerala. And they are all set to prove it within a few days at Kottappady. Probably a first in the country and also a rare feat even at the world level, the gender neutral football tournament has been gaining attention in the northern districts of the State, in which boys, girls and transpeople from across the State will be part of the teams. The semi-finals and the finals of the tournament will be held in Malappuram on February 10 and both the players and viewers are excited alike, to rewrite history and have fun.â\x80\x9cItâ\x80\x99s like playing any other tournament or game, just that itâ\x80\x99s a lot more fun as your teammates are from different genders,â\x80? says techie Avin Ramesh, one of the players, who is practising with his team for the finals. â\x80\x9cWhen I played my first round of matches with women and transpersons, I thought it would be easy to score as many of them were first timers in football. But I was so wrong and even the first goal in our match came from a woman!â\x80? adds Avin. Each team consists of 11 members â\x80\x94 three men, seven women and one transperson. While the men and women are mostly aged below 20, there is no age restriction for transpeople. Sreerag P N, one of the organisers, says, â\x80\x9cThe event is organised by Yuvasamithi, the youth wing of Kerala Peopleâ\x80\x99s Science Movement (Sasthra Sahithya Parishad). We used to have gender neutral events as part of our camps in the past too. We conduct a film festival every year in Malappuram and this year for a change, we decided to hold a sports and cultural event with a difference. And as the venue is the football-crazy Malappuram, we decided to go for a gender neutral football tournament!â\x80?The message was passed on to youth wings across various districts and the players were found through small-time regional matches. When they found it tough to find women team members, the organisers approached a handful of colleges and schools, who agreed on sending their sports girls for the match! Many of the women footballers have been part of other sports events and are trying this game for the first time! They have been practising with teammates of other genders, and say it feels quite normal. Divya Krishna, captain of one of the teams, says, â\x80\x9cWhen the organisers of the event approached us, we had our share of concerns first but decided to give it a try, nevertheless. But once the event started the gender hardly mattered, while on the ground. There was no room for gender bias, we helped each other and had a lot of fun too. I love the positive energy on the field in this tournament.â\x80?Transperson Esha Kishore, who played football for the first time in this match, says, â\x80\x9cMany transpeople are'

- 'GHAZIABAD: The Uttar Pradesh STF arrested a 30-year-old man from a highrise in Raj Nagar Extension on Saturday for allegedly facilitating transfers and postings of several IAS and IPS officers in the state.Peeyush Aggarwal had allegedly fixed a Rs 1.25 crore deal for ensuring that a senior IAS officer is posted as the vice-chairperson of Kanpur Development Authority (KDA). The deal, however, fell through. Though Aggarwal is believed to have assets worth crores, he stayed in a rented flat at KW Srishti housing society. Originally from Uttarakhand, he had been living in Delhi-NCR for the past 10 years.Investigators said Aggarwal would go around telling people that he was a social worker and a freelance journalist with DD News. He also carried an ID card of the news channel, which later turned out to be fake.Vishal Vikram Singh, ASP in STF in Lucknow, said their investigation followed an audio clip in which Aggarwal can be purportedly heard talking to his associates about the IAS officerâ\x80\x99s posting. After the clip featured on a news channel on May 21, the government ordered an investigation by the STF. â\x80\x9cDuring questioning, Peeyush Aggarwal admitted that the voice in the audio clip is his. He said he was talking to an associated named Kamlesh regarding the posting of an IAS officer in KDA,â\x80? the officer added.Aggarwal had apparently been asked by a relative, Gorikant Dixit, to facilitate the posting, for which the accused had demanded Rs 1.25 crore. Kamlesh, the STF officer said, met Aggarwal on behalf of the IAS officer in a Lucknow hotel on March 2 and gave him Rs 15 lakh as advance. Aggarwal allegedly gave Kamlesh Rs 2 lakh as his â\x80\x9ccommissionâ\x80? and transferred another Rs 2 lakh to Dixitâ\x80\x99s bank account. â\x80\x9cHe then came back to Delhi with the remaining money via Etawah,â\x80? Singh said.Aggarwal is believed to have told the investigators that he had met several politicians to facilitate the transfer but couldnâ\x80\x99t because of the lockdown. â\x80\x9cWhen Aggarwal failed to facilitate the posting, the IAS officer asked for his money back. Aggarwal kept making false promises. A news channel somehow got hold of the audio clip in which Aggarwal can be heard talking to Kamlesh and ran it,â\x80? Singh said.Last month, when Dixit was arrested by Delhi Police in another case of forgery, Aggarwal spent Rs 2.5 lakh from whatever money he had on his relativeâ\x80\x99s bail. The process of reversing the balance amount of around Rs 8,000 is currently on.Desai learned about the single fraudulent transaction when he received a text alert on his mobile phone around 8.56pm on February 25. "In the majority of cases, people fall prey to scams due to fear. Otherwise, we will end up supplying small orders, which will not only waste our time but bring less revenue.â\x80?A senior states excise department official said it was wrong on the part of the wine shop owners to set such a condition. The official said if the department gets complaints, action will be initiated against such wine shop owners. - 'Domestic sales in the month of June 2017 were bogged down by liquidation of stocks at the dealers end and OEMs withholding inventory due to the upcoming GST regime from 1 July. Q1 of 2017-18 (April-June), saw the green shoots of recovery in the passenger vehicle market led by utility vehicles while the two- wheeler segment piggy-backed on growing urbanization in cities and towns that revved up demand for scooters. Discounts and pre-buying especially in commercial vehicles and motorcycles due to the enforcement of BS-IV emission norms from 1 April 2017, led to overall domestic auto sales being a mixed bag marked by peaks and troughs in Q1. In the passenger vehicle segment, Honda Cars India led the growth march recording the highest sales growth at 21.09 percent followed by market leader Maruti Suzuki India with an uptick of 13.97 percent. In market share, Maruti Suzuki was a distant first with a huge chunk of the pie (50.4 percent) with Honda Cars India garnering a nominal 5.29 percent share of the market. Passenger vehicle Market Share in Q1 FY2018 The steepest decline in growth rate was witnessed by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) that was in the red with a dip of 25.52 percent and was trailed by Renault India with sales plummeting by 23.25 percent. All other carmakers were either up or down in single digits. A look at Q1 of 2016-17, reveals Honda Cars India nose-diving 28.35 percent while Maruti Suzuki grew in single digits of 5.45 percent. TKM grew marginally at 1.2 percent while Renault India was up 173.04 percent on the back of its Kwid hatchback. The PV segment was then just emerging from the shadows of the slowdown in the market. Incidentally, Maruti Suzuki has upped its market share to 50.48 percent in Q1FY18 from 46.90 percent in Q1FY17 on the back of growth in its utility vehicles especially the Vitara Brezza and the Ertiga. All its segments have grown during this period including the Mini that saw a drop in June. Only the Omni and Eeco vans have tripped marginally from 36558 units in Q1FY17 to 35,739 units in the same period in FY18. Edelweiss Securities maintains that a few players who have established a decisive lead are set to further fortify their position over the next 3-5 years. In PVs Maruti Suzukiâ\x80\x99s dominance will rise further with its gap with peers widening. Passenger vehicle Market Share in Q1 FY2017 While the company has done a catch up on the premiumisation band wagon, competition has gone back to the drawing board to recalibrate the strategy (including exiting domestic market). It has not only increased market share (900bps in 5 years), but is also expanding its dominance across other key areasâ\x80\x94product launch cycle (2-3 launches every year), distribution reach (trebling on a high base), margin and free cash flow cycle. TKM, M&M, VW India, Renault and Ford India have been the key losers of market share in the first quarter of FY18. TKM was down one'
- 'car has a strong and distinctive personality and cannot be mistaken for another one.â\x80? The family look, however, is not confined to the face, or the front end. â\x80\x9cWe are concentrating on getting the overall volume and surface treatment of our designs to have a sense of belonging, that is, not just the face but the entire body has to belong to one family,â\x80? says Ramkripa Ananthan, chief designer, Mahindra & Mahindra. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT Design evolves with time â\x80\x94 and new rules â\x80\x94 often making it possible to guess its age. â\x80\x9cA lot of the front-end appearance is governed by regulatory requirements, which change with time. Current frontal crash and pedestrian safety norms will necessitate a particular shape. In order to meet these regulatory requirements, designers have to use creativity to maintain or build a character or expression,â\x80? adds Ananthan. For instance, she explains, the front fascia (painted part of the body that surrounds the headlights and grill) is carved around the front safety beam and the hood is sculpted to meet head impact criteria, yet maintaining a continuity of appearance. Another regulatory requirement in future could be daytime running lamps. These are typically converted to â\x80\x98signaturesâ\x80\x99 using LEDs or light guides. Latest technology and manufacturing processes are used by designers to finely craft the frontal appearance to meet regulatory requirements yet maintain continuity (if so required). â\x80\x9cCustomers are able to clearly identify our designs as belonging to the Mahindra portfolio,â\x80? adds Ananthan. Vehicles are also beginning to look similar because of aerodynamics, critical for reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency. If not the overall form, the spoilers or aero corners and safety requirements drive a lot of the shape in front and around the vehicle. Honda believes in the people-centric design philosophy. Its latest design language, â\x80\x98the solid wing face,â\x80\x99 is about a â\x80\x9cbold and solidâ\x80? shape, beginning from the H mark emblem. â\x80\x9cUsing this concept, Honda gives its vehicles across line-up a recognisable family look and yet a certain uniqueness, to set each model apart,â\x80? says a spokesperson for Honda Cars India. Another side of a family look is individuality â\x80\x94 something that consumers cherish too. And thatâ\x80\x99s a fine line carmakers have to tread. As Marutiâ\x80\x99s Raman explains, â\x80\x9cA scenario where cars start to look too similar might bring a visual monotony for customers. We have to respect varied customer preferences and also be honest to varied product categories. Itâ\x80\x99s more a matter of correctly reading the pulse of the consumer and designing products accordingly. I think people want individuality to be reflected in their products also.â\x80? - 'CHENNAI: Ramesh Kumar (name changed), aged 41, diagnosed with cancer, was unable to open his mouth post a surgery. Dentists were flummoxed on the way ahead given its complexity. Osteo3Dâ\x80\x99s three-dimensional (3D) printed models of his jaws have now enabled Kumar to eat, smile and lead a normal life. 3D printing or the process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file is finding takers in healthcare as more surgeons seek to solve complex cases with customised solutions.DF3D, a 3D design startup founded by Deepak Raj has set up Osteo3D to address healthcare needs. Raj has delivered over 140 pieces for cranial, orthopaedic, and maxillofacial surgical procedures. It takes Raj over 2-5 days to complete the process once a requisition comes in.In healthcare, one of the important applications is surgical planning. Fracktal Technologiesâ\x80\x99services were used for detecting cancer recently. â\x80\x9cWe scanned the affected organ after which an image was 3D printed using our printers and software. In the model, the cancer-affected cells were not as solid as the affected areas and the doctors could plan their surgery accordingly,â\x80? Aniket Jotwani, chief marketing officer, Fracktal Technologies, said.Another nascent application of 3D printing is tissue engineering, or the growth of tissues to produce an organ. Dr Sonal Asthana, liver transplant surgeon adds that while material printing is used in surgeries, 3D bio printing, that uses hydrogels to create a structure of an organ such as a kidney or liver, within which cells can be cultured, is coming up. â\x80\x9cCells can live in this environment for 6 to 8 weeks, as opposed to 3-4 weeks in the natural environment. Such 3D printed organs can solve the problem of organ shortage in the country,â\x80? he added.Material 3D printing has widespread use in making customised dental implants, prosthetic arms or limbs. â\x80\x9c3D printing helps in customised orthopaedic requests. Hospitals do not buy 3D printers, but take the help of experts like us to create the structures,â\x80? said Arun Chandru, co-founder, Pandorum Technologies.Hospitals initially are reluctant to take to 3D printing, because the procedure is not standardised. â\x80\x9cFor a cast, the procedures are not too complex; hence hospitals are more ready. But when it comes to having a 3D printed organ, they are cautious,â\x80? said Chandru. The government funded startup developed a 3D printed liver tissue in December 2015.Jotwani from Fracktal Technologies adds that hospitals are not actively looking for 3D printing solutions as the indsutry is self sufficient. â\x80\x9cOne of the main challenges we faced was to get an entry point into the system given that the technology is new and untested,â\x80? he said. However, VCs are not drawn to this concept yet. According to 6Wresearch, while the India 3D Printer Market is projected to cross $79 million by 2021, after automotive applications, it is educational and medical applications that are employing 3D printing. Data from Tracxn shows that there are 72 startups in 3D printing space of which a mere five startups have external funding (two are funded by the government). Arpit Agarwal,'

I know Ding had many internet issues previously also, so when his internet connection got cut again, I resigned and gave the game back to him."It was unfortunate for him because I was losing the game on the board and on the clock when he lost the net connection. - 'Jacqueline Fernandez admits that her visits to Delhi are mostly whirlwind affairs. "I usually land for an event or a movie promotion in the morning, travel from the airport to the hotel or venue and then back. I havenâ\x80\x99t had the chance to explore the city," the actress said on her recent visit to Delhi. While even this time she did not get a chance to explore the capital, she told DT her wish list: places she wants to visit, things she wants to do and of course, foods she wants to taste, in Delhi. She also spoke about her passion for action and sports and how she is impressed with Delhiâ\x80\x99s wide roads and huge bungalows.'I've grown up in a culture where people are obsessed with football'Jacqueline's visit to Delhi this time around was not for a film promotion though. She is the brand ambassador of the football team, Delhi Dynamos, and was in the capital to unveil the teamâ\x80\x99s jersey for the new season. Jacqueline told us that her association with football goes back to her school days. "I have always been a fan of football and I grew up as an athlete. I used to play all kinds of sports - be it basketball, football, volleyball, and badminton, and I found football to be the most difficult of them all because it was just so taxing. But Iâ\x80\x99ve grown up in that culture where people are football obsessed and I will soon become one of those people now," she said. Jacqueline said she has maintained her connect with sports through her fitness regime. MMA training and kickboxing prominently feature in her workouts and the actress hopes that some day, she will get to do some action on screen too. She told us, "Action films with female leads are very few, it's still a niche section. But being a part of so many action films where Iâ\x80\x99m not being able to partake in the action sometimes makes me really sad. But hopefully, we will get there soon and it would be something that I would love to do. Itâ\x80\x99s always been my dream to portray someone like a Lara Croft on screen someday, or even do something along the lines of Charlie's Angels."'The kind of space that you have in Delhi is something that we never see back in Mumbai'Jacqueline's only memories of Delhi are from 2013 when she shot for Kick. She said, "Actually, I havenâ\x80\x99t been able to come back and shoot here since then. For Kick, we shot near Qutub Minar. I remember it was Holi that day when we shot there, and it was wonderful. Later, we went and visited a couple of these big, sprawling bungalows and that amazed me. The kind of space you have here in Delhi, be it the houses or the roads, is something we never see back in Mumbai."'The smog is a wake-up call, we must be environment-conscious'The actressâ\x80\x99 visit to the capital coincided with the rise in'
