Indonesia is home to a rich tapestry of over 700 languages, with Javanese being spoken by more than 90 million people on the island of Java. This makes Javanese comparable to other major languages like Vietnamese and Turkish. Despite its large speaker base, the representation of Javanese in current large language model (LLM) chatbots is notably limited. This gap restricts accessibility for Javanese speakers and hinders their ability to engage with technology in their native language.
In this project, we aim to fine-tune an open-source LLM to develop a chatbot tailored specifically for the Javanese-speaking community. Our goal is to create a conversational tool that excels in natural language understanding in Javanese, making it suitable for a variety of applications.
To effectively serve this community, we require GPU resources to enhance the efficiency of LLM inference. The fine-tuning process demands significant computational power, especially to handle the nuances of the Javanese language and ensure high-quality interactions. By utilizing GPU resources, we can accelerate the training and inference processes, allowing for a more responsive and capable chatbot. This will ultimately lead to a better user experience for Javanese speakers, helping to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusivity in technology.
Your support through this grant will enable us to leverage GPU resources, ensuring that our project can achieve its full potential and serve the Javanese-speaking community effectively.
